Choose one substantial piece of work. Describe what you personally contributed, what changed, and why that might matter to another employer. All examples below are fictional illustrations, not client results or live vacancies.

  1. 01

    Start with the work

Describe the problem, your responsibility and the scale. Explain an unfamiliar institution in ordinary language.

Example: At a national industry association, I coordinated member input on regulatory proposals and prepared briefings for senior leaders.

  2. 02

    Name the capability

Identify what you can do again in another setting. Be precise about your ownership and level of responsibility.

Example: Policy analysis, stakeholder coordination and translating complex rules into decision-ready briefings.

  3. 03

    Provide evidence

Use an accurate outcome, work product or scope. Include numbers only when you can substantiate them, and protect confidential information.

Example: I consolidated conflicting member views into an agreed submission and delivered the board briefing before the consultation deadline.

  4. 04

    Test two directions

Read actual role descriptions. Compare responsibilities, seniority, language and location requirements. A similar title alone does not establish fit.

Example: Investigate policy adviser and regulatory affairs roles. Check whether local legal knowledge or sector expertise is essential before applying.

  5. 05

    Write your positioning statement

Connect your capability and evidence to a specific employer need. Identify what still needs refreshing or validating.

Example: I help organizations interpret regulatory developments and coordinate stakeholder responses, drawing on experience turning complex proposals into agreed submissions and senior-level briefings.
